Networking Evening

On Tuesday 10th September we hosted the first event in our Alumnae Networking series. The event brought together a dynamic mix of professionals working in industries such as architecture, interior design, and furniture design for an inspiring evening of conversation and collaboration.

The event kicked off with Lydia Kan (OQ 1997) giving a presentation to our I Seniors on her career. One student, Dasha, gave her account of the ecxiting talk:

On Tuesday 10th September the first seniors indulged in an afternoon of architecture with Lydia Kan who is an associate partner at Oxford Architects. Lydia gave a rundown of how she began her career and the heights she has achieved within the journey.

Personally, I found the talk fascinating, as I have never put much thought into architecture or the ideas and meanings behind the styles of construction. Despite this, I found Lydia’s current architectural projects captivating, as each specific style and material choice was done to ensure that the room was more spacious to the eye or to capture the light and make the area brighter.

The overall atmosphere after the talk was positive, with some of my friends even talking about exploring this area further as an option for their own futures. Even without the desire to go into architecture as a career for myself, the talk provided an inspirational example of how to build a successful career, and we learnt important skills for how to achieve in our futures.

We are looking forward to our next Alumnae Networking Evening on Tuesday 19th November, which will focus on Media and Journalism.
