Dr Kaufmann is the author of the critically acclaimed, Wolfson History Prize and Nayef Al-Rodhan Prize shortlisted, book 'Black Tudors: The Untold Story (Oneworld 2017)'. She is a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, part of the School of Advanced Study, University of London, where she has been co-convening the popular "What's Happening in Black British History?" series with Michael Ohajuru since 2014. She read History at Christ Church, Oxford, where she completed her doctoral thesis on 'Africans in Britain, 1500-1640' in 2011
Kaufmann is a popular speaker at public institutions, festivals, conferences, seminars and schools from Edinburgh to Jamaica and has published articles in academic journals and as well as mainstream media. She is passionate about the teaching of black history in schools and runs the Teaching Black Tudors workshops to help teachers explore how to diversify their school history curriculum when teaching this very popular period.
